Preaching The Sovereignty Of God

A. W. Pink (1886-1952)The preaching of the sovereignty of God, as exercised by Him in foreordaining the eternal destiny of each of His creatures, serves as an effectual flail to divide the chaff from the wheat. “He that is of God heareth God’s words” (John 8:47): yes, no matter how contrary they may be to his ideas. It is one of the marks of the regenerate that they set to their seal that God is true. Nor do they pick and choose, as will religious hypocrites: once they perceive a truth is clearly taught in the Word, even though it be utterly opposed to their own reason and inclinations, they humbly bow to it and implicitly receive it, and would do so though not another person in whole world believed it. But it is far otherwise with the unregenerate. As the apostle declares, “They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error” (1 John 4:5,6).

We know of nothing so divisive between the sheep and the goats as a faithful exposition of this doctrine. If a servant of God accepts some new charge, and he wishes to ascertain which of his people desire the pure milk of the Word, and which prefer the Devil’s substitutes, let him deliver a series of sermons on this subject, and it will quickly be the means of “taking forth the precious from the vile” (Jeremiah 15:19). It was thus in the experience of the Divine Preacher: when Christ announced “no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father,” we are told, “from that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him” (John 6:65,66)!

About Greg Coleman

I am a Particular Baptist who affirms the absolute sovereignty of the triune Godhead in all things. The fullness of the Godhead dwells in the God-man Jesus Christ. He is the Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, Disposer and Judge of all that ever was, is now or ever shall be. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men. He was made to be sin for his people and saved them from their sins by his substitutionary, sacrificial death on the cross thereby satisfying the justice and wrath of God against them. The sufficiency of his death to the satisfaction of God’s justice is proven by his physical resurrection from the dead and enthronement in glory at the right hand of the Father. Jesus Christ is coming again to judge the living and the dead. Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.

Oh brother Coleman..your words are words that are so much needed today. The call to separation. If only people could come to realize that the only reason we were made..the ONLY reason…was to serve and glorify God. Not to watch perverse worldly television programs, or partake in wordly events..not to edify and glorify our own lusts, desires, and joy…but to live for God, and God alone. We were made to worship and serve Him..and that’s it. To raise our children, and their children, and their children’s children, and so forth up in Him..that’s it. If peoiple could realize this, and instead of loving what we know about Him, fall IN LOVE with Him; just like a person does when they first meet their significant other. They eat, drink, walk, talk, sleep nothing but that person. They are saturated with craving, yearning, and desire for that person’s voice, their company…they can’t wait to get home to see them, they can’t wait to talk WITH them, they can’t wait period! They’re so excited, all they do is talk about that person and tell people how wonderful this person is. They’re not ashamed, but happy and over-joyed to speak of this person, and to read their love letters. This is how we ought to love the Lord. God bless you brother Coleman. I pray for you and God’s blessings and anointing always.

Are you of the opinion that non Calvinists are unregenerate?

    • Tom Bridges says:

I’m not sure but I think I heard John McCarther say that once.

    • Greg Coleman says:

      Mr. Bridges,

Thank you for stopping by APBB.

Please understand that I’m not a Calvinist so the opinion that I give you is not from that perspective.

I have no more reason to believe that all non-Calvinists are unregenerate than I have to believe that all Calvinists are regenerate.

Calvinism does not save anyone. Nor does any other doctrinal framework.

Jesus Christ saves. Only Christ. Christ alone.

I believe that anyone who believes Jesus is the son of God, or God in the flesh, and died on the cross and was raised again, and truly calls upon Him as Lord and Savior of their lives, and picks up their cross and carries it…(repenting of all sin, and not living in it..yes, we will make mistakes..but we repent, which means conviction, confession, apology to God and those whom we have offended (if any) and cease the behavior) is saved. It doesn’t matter what religion someone is…if we agree on Jesus Christ and that He is the Messiah and are truly born again, as I’ve explained, then we are all sisters and brothers, and part of the body of Christ. Once we do this, we all share the Holy Spirit given to us at our new birth.
